The Start Reading Program

A comprehensive system to teach students to name and write letters, read sounds, read and write words and stories, develop literal, interpretative, critical, and creative comprehension. Exercises to develop phonemic awareness are built into the early part of the program.

A child's future success in school and later life is dependent upon his/her ability to read, write, and comprehend the written word.

The sequential introduction of phonic skills, new vocabulary, spelling, writing, and comprehension skills insures mastery by every learner. The printed storybooks are also enjoyed by the children. The 15 workbooks purchased with the storybooks thrill parents and teachers by providing materials necessary for effective instruction. After each workbook is successfully completed by the child, and all of the letter names, hand-writing, sounds and words have been taught, the child is tested for mastery. A mastery test is found at the end of each workbook. Flash cards are also in each workbook.

The children are now able to read along in the accompanying storybook. As they read, they follow a beautifully illustrated story. The teacher/parent asks questions that are provided after the story is read to test the children's comprehension or understanding of the story.

Each succeeding workbook and storybook teaches thoroughly the new skills and reviews those previously taught. Each workbook tests for mastery before children move on.
